Stem cells offer genuine possibilities for the discovery and delivery of new treatments in neurodegenerative diseases such as Multiple Sclerosis, Motor Neurone disease, Parkinson's disease and even Alzheimer's disease. But how much of the present excitement is merely hype?

Stem cells for neurological disorders - where now?

What is actually realistic, and over what time scale? Using these diseases as examples we will describe the "state of the art" as to the biology and application of stem cells in neurology. Our goal is to convey the excitement of the neuroscience community about the opportunities offered by this new field while at the same time presenting a realistic picture of the difficulties that face efforts to take stem cells from bench to bedside.
