Intercalating at the University of Edinburgh
B Med Sci programmes are available to students who have successfully completed their second year in the MBChB.
All undergraduate medicine students undertake a BMedSci in Year 3 of the MBChB programme. This intercalated year gives students the opportunity to research an area of interest to them within a wide range of options; learn valuable new skills and experience aspects of academic medicine.
Students will have the opportunity in Year 2 to research the programmes they wish to apply to and have the chance to hear from other students who have intercalated.
Most students intercalate internally, but there are a small number of students who apply to intercalate at other universities if they wish to study a course not provided at Edinburgh. Students who wish to do this must contact the Year 3 Director to seek permission to apply externally.
