Molecular Pathology Node

Masters by Research

Masters by Research in Molecular Pathology, offered as part of Masters in Medical Sciences Programme.

Our Masters by Research offers training for a new generation of scientists to develop novel assays, algorithms and standards for genome analysis and interpretation for clinical use.

High calibre medical graduates and clinical scientists will be trained in molecular pathology, undertaking a laboratory-based research project relevant to their speciality.

Training the next generation

The primary objective for the node is to train high calibre medical graduates and clinical scientists in molecular pathology. To achieve this, we have established a Masters by Research in Molecular Pathology and are training a new generation of scientists who will develop new assays, algorithms and standards for genome analysis and interpretation for clinical use.

Hands-on research project

Students are offered the opportunity to undertake a research project in a laboratory or department relevant to their speciality or area of interest. The choice of research projects available in molecular pathology is wide and includes all aspects of laboratory medicine. This programme enables students to explore and benefit from a period of hands-on research, to enhance their skills and perhaps go on to pursue a PhD or a career in research or molecular pathology.

Biogen are sponsoring additional masters students in areas of common interest such as understanding the molecular genetic basis of neurodegenerative diseases, particularly multiple sclerosis and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Alzheimer's Disease and Parkinson's Disease.
