Eligibility and Registration

What are the eligibility criteria? 

You are eligible to participate in CEP if you teach University of Edinburgh Medical School students, or teach trainees within Southeast Scotland Deanery or one of the NHS boards that take Edinburgh Medical School students (Ayrshire & Arran, Dumfries & Galloway, Forth Valley, Lanarkshire, NSS/BTS, state hospital, Highland, Western Isles).

Participants who have a named GMC supervisor role may choose to select courses as follows:

  • Clinical supervisor: courses 1 - 4 plus a teaching observation and feedback session (TOF)
  • Educational supervisor/undergraduate teaching roles: courses 1-6 plus TOF. 

Those with a named educator role should continue to record teaching activity on the Scottish Online Appraisal Resource (SOAR).

Certificate of completion

A certificate confirming the successful completion of courses will be issued and this may be used as evidence to support an application for recognition of trainer (RoT) status. The certificate will be valid for five years from date of issue. Thereafter, participants must apply to revalidate. Please see link below. 

Following completion of the Clinical Educator Programme, those who are interested in developing their educational abilities further may undertake further study via a course entitled Clinical Education in Practice. Please see Further Study link below.
