Travel to and from Heriot-Watt

Location of Edinburgh Conference Centre at Riccarton

The Conference Centre is located on the Heriot-Watt University campus which on the west side of the city of Edinburgh.

Travelling to the conference centre by air

Edinburgh airport is 10 - 15 minutes from the Heriot-Watt University campus by taxi.  We recommend that you travel from the airport to the conference centre at Heriot-Watt by taxi as there is no direct bus service.   A single taxi fare from the airport will typically cost about 16.00 GBP.

For onward connections transferring in Europe, popular airport choices are London, Amsterdam, Paris, Frankfurt, Brussels, Dublin and Copenhagen. There are also North American daily flights to Newark and JFK and several per week to Chicago and Toronto. Daily flights to the Middle East and Turkey (Abu Dhabi, Doha, Istanbul) are primarily for onward connections. There are a large number of flights, mainly to Europe, with low cost carriers that use Edinburgh (Easyjet, Ryanair, Jet2.com).

Glasgow airport has further flights to the US and Iceland (for onward connections) as well as many services that complement those into Edinburgh. It is easily accessible from Edinburgh by train and bus links or taxi (takes about 90 minutes to 2 hours).

Travelling to the conference centre by train

If travelling to Heriot-Watt University by train, do NOT alight at Edinburgh Park Railway Station as there are no direct bus links from this station to Heriot-Watt. The main train stations in Edinburgh are in the city centre (Edinburgh Waverley and Haymarket).   From these two railway stations you will be able to get a bus to the conference centre at Heriot-Watt from a nearby bus stop.  

Edinburgh has frequent (every 30 minutes) trains to London (about 4 hours 20 minutes), regular links to the major English cities, and a direct link to Manchester Airport (about 3 hours) which can be used as another point of entry to the UK.

Travelling to the conference centre by bus

If travelling to Heriot-Watt from the city centre there are a number of direct buses.  We recommend that you take a No.25 Lothian bus which runs frequently from Princes Street (near Waverley train station) and passes close to (Haymarket Railway station)  The journey takes between 30 and 45 minutes.   The fare is 1.60 GBP and please note that the exact fare is required.   No change is given.  

There is a app for andriod and iphones called "EdinBus" which is a bus tracker, telling you arrival times and bus stop locations.
