Lectures and podcasts
If you live locally, you are warmly invited to come to the wide variety of free public lectures we host...or listen from the comfort of your sofa.
We host many very distinguished people who speak on a wide range of subjects. In the past, these have included Noam Chomsky, Shah Rukh Khan, Captain Eric ‘Winkle’ Brown, Professor Anneila Sargent, Professor Lord Robert Winston, Hans Blix, Professor Amartya Sen, Mary Robinson and Professor Stefan Collini.
We also have a variety of lecture series, including our Enlightenment Lectures, the Medical Detectives series, Our Changing World cycle and the historic Gifford Lectures. Other lectures form part of an annual sequence of ‘one-off’ lectures, including those for the Mountbatten Lecture, the Tam Dalyell Prize lecture, the International Women’s Day lecture and more. Every new Professor must give an inaugural lecture and you can be the first to hear them outline their contribution to their field of study.
All of these talks are free and everyone is welcome, although please book your place in advance to secure a seat.
For those unable to come along in person, many of these events are recorded for our YouTube channel, where you can view them at your leisure.
Big Idea podcast
You can listen to our monthly podcast which brings together academics from the University to discuss big ideas and topical issues. Hear what they have to say on topics such as Brexit, elections, the future of cities and much more.
