The Donghua Edinburgh Centre for Creative Industries has won the China-Scotland Business Awards ‘Innovators in Education’ award.

The prize recognises a partnership which began in 2014 as a joint programme of teaching and research between the Confucius Institute for Scotland and Shanghai International College of Fashion and Innovation at Donghua University, and has now developed into a full programme of cultural activities for the wider community.

The Donghua Edinburgh Centre for Creative Industries stages an annual fashion show during Edinburgh’s Festival Fringe, runs a summer school programme, and hosts a successful public lecture series - activities the judging panel said “showcased a novel approach to cross-cultural education, offering students in both countries the opportunity to engage and expand their own creative visions.”

Partnered by Scottish Enterprise, the China-Scotland Business Awards celebrate the expanding trade and investment ties between Scotland and China. Graduates from our Chinese Studies programmes, as well as from fashion, textiles and other programmes in Edinburgh College of Art, are already seeing the benefits of these links for employability both in Scotland and East Asia.

We are extremely pleased [to] have won this award for innovation in education. In the past three years, our colleagues... have worked passionately together to produce a wide range of exciting educational and cultural programmes, as well as a joint research agenda on Shanghai fashion and sustainable fashion. I believe our partnership will grow from strength to strength through further innovation and closer collaboration with all partners.
