Funding opportunities for masters candidates (taught MSc and MSc by Research) in the School of Literatures, Languages and Cultures.
What's available?
Five student scholarships of £5000 each are available to exceptional students starting the MSc in the Globalised Muslim World programme. The scholarships are available to both UK and international students and are awarded on a competitive basis.
The application deadline for 2023 entry is Monday 31 July 2023.
For entry in September 2023, we are offering scholarships for up to four students covering £3,000 of tuition fees in the first year of study – home and international/EU rates.
These scholarships have been made possible by the Academy of Korean Studies (AKS).
You do not need to apply for a scholarship – all eligible candidates who apply for the programme will be considered for them and contacted if successful.
Designed to support the development of Japanese Studies in the UK, this scheme annually provides postgraduate studentships of £10,000 each. Candidates on our East Asian Relations MSc (who have a research focus on Japan), or on our Japanese MSc by Research programme, are eligible. All candidates who have applied for their place at the University by the application deadline will automatically be considered.
The deadline for 2023 entry has now passed. The deadline for 2024 is likely to be late March 2024.

This award of £2,300 per annum is for masters research in any Romance literature, language or dialect. Candidates must be a student or graduate of the University of Edinburgh. Preference may be given to those working in language studies: we can typically supervise research in French, Spanish, Portuguese, Catalan, and Italian.

The next application window is for 2024 entry. It is likely to close in early May 2024.

This award will be given to an eligible masters student on one of the following three programmes:
- MSc by Research in French
- MSc by Research in Spanish (Hispanic Studies)
- MSc in Translation Studies - specialising in French or Spanish
The award covers tuition fees for a maximum of one year (at the Home/EU rate) and you'll need to have been domiciled in Scotland for a minimum of four years prior to starting your degree.

These scholarships contribute £2,400 towards tuition fees and are available to postgraduate students accepted onto our full-time MSc in Creative Writing.
You do not need to apply for a scholarship – all eligible candidates who applied for the programme by Thursday 4 May 2023 will be considered for them and contacted if successful.
