Critical success for language graduate
Bryan Karetnyk, who graduated in 2008 with a degree in Japanese and Russian from the University of Edinburgh, has received critical praise this year for his translation work on Gaito Gazdanov’s novel ‘The Spectre of Alexander Wolf’.
Published by Pushkin Press, the translation has been highlighted in reviews in The Independent, The Times, L’Express and The Guardian. It is an early postmodern classic that has been rediscovered after more than half a century.
