Edinburgh graduates among most employable

The Global Employability University Ranking, published by the New York Times, places Edinburgh 18th out of the 150 institutions judged worldwide.

The new rankings measure universities on the production of graduates who are “ready to work”, and have expertise in a particular field and reputation.

The list rates Edinburgh top in Scotland and fifth in the UK.

Top earners

Further research has found that Edinburgh graduates are also among the UK’s top earners. Edinburgh alumni earn an average salary of £48,500 within five years of leaving University.

The study placed the Edinburgh at eighth in the UK and top in Scotland.

The new statistics reveal how the average salaries of graduates from different universities vary significantly, and highlight some trends.

The research was conducted by salary benchmarking website, Emolument.com.

World leader

The outcomes reinforce Edinburgh’s position as one of the world’s top universities, building Research Excellent Framework, which ranked Edinburgh fourth in the UK for research - based on quality and breadth of its research - and top in Scotland.

The institution has also achieved strong showings in the recent Times Higher Education, QS and Shanghai global rankings.
