50 George Square opening

The new home of the School of Literatures, Languages and Cultures was officially opened by HRH The Princess Royal

On Thursday 15 October 2015, the Chancellor of the University, Princess Anne, officially opened 50 George Square.

Also attending the opening ceremony was Dr Shah Rukh Khan, one of Bollywood's most popular stars, who had earlier received an honourary degree from The Princess Royal.

The plaque unveiling had been preceeded by a walk through of the building where the Chancellor met staff and students from around the School of Literatures, Languages and Cultures.

Professor Jeremy Robbins, Head of the School, said, 'It was a great honour to have the Chancellor open the building. We are very proud of our new location and the community that has already grown strong within it. I was also very impressed with the wide variety of research that the school was able to highlight to The Princess Royal as she toured the building.'

50 George Square is the home to the School of Literatures, Languages and Cultures and houses the Departments of English & Scottish Literature, European Languages & Cultures, Celtic & Scottish Studies and Asian Studies as well as the LLC Graduate School.
