The LHC provides students and staff from the College of Humanities and Social Sciences with access to a large catalogue of films and documentaries, places to view the collection, video and audio editing facilities and a range of technical equipment to create and record their own content.
The Language and Humanities Centre can be found on the first floor of number 50 George Square.
The video catalogue can be searched through the Video Catalogue Search channel in MyEd (you may need to add the Channel through the tab on the top left of the MyEd window). There are currently around 9000 items, from rare BBC documentaries to animated short films, from Hollywood blockbusters to post-revolutionary Iranian cinema. Postgraduate students and staff can borrow items from the collection overnight and everyone is free to watch whatever interests them in the Resource Centre.
Video and Audio Editing
We have a small editing facility comprising of two iMacs equipped with Adobe Creative Suite 6 Production Premium. Please contact John Glendinning to check availability of the suite on a given day.
The LHC holds digital audio recorders, microphones , tripods, lighting equipment and a 16mm sound projector as well as equipment for converting various video tape formats and audio tape formats to Digital.
The department is also equipped with a Sony AVCHD professional Camera capable of HD and SD, for use by staff and students as well as laptops and projectors available for staff.
