Resources in Literatures, Languages and Cultures
There are a number of dedicated resources within the School of Literatures, Languages and Cultures that are available to you.
Postgraduate Study Room
There is a study room available only to PhD students in the School of Literatures, Languages and Cultures at 50 George Square. The study room is on the 4th floor and PhD students can book to use a desk in advance.
There are lockers in the rooms available for PhD students on payment of a deposit of £10 for the key. Locker keys are available from the PGR Office in 50 George Square.
There are no individually allocated desks and you are expected to clear the desk once you have finished for the day. If books or other belongings are left lying overnight in the room, they will be removed to a lost property area so please do ensure that you use the available lockers to safely store your belongings. WIFI is available in this room and throughout the building. To open the door to the study room, you simply need to place your student card close to the proximity reader located adjacent to the door.
All new PhD students will be included in the Access system but if, for some reason, your card hasn't been activated for use, please contact the receptionist on the ground floor of 50 George Square to request access or email to llc.PGResearch@ed.ac.uk giving us your student number. There is a separate common room area for PhD students on the fourth floor (next door to the study room), access to this room is by a 4 digit PIN code. This PIN code is on the notice board within the 4th floor study room itself. The common room has pigeon holes for students as well as a kitchen with a fridge and microwave. There is a cloud printer/photocopier in the study room.
