Literatures, Languages & Cultures

Galician Interdisciplinary Studies

Organised by colleagues in Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies in the School of Literatures, Languages and Cultures (LLC), this one-day symposium will bring together established and early-career researchers working on issues related to Galician Studies across disciplines.

By taking an interdisciplinary perspective, the meeting aims to shed light on how Galician Studies engage with the most diverse avenues of research, with particular emphasis on new approaches within the Humanities.

The event will provide a platform for discussion and networking, as well as an opportunity for students at the University of Edinburgh to familiarise themselves with Galician language and culture.

Call for Papers

The Call for Papers is now open. Submissions are welcome until 31st December 2017.

Of special interest are proposals for papers which explore the existing relationship between Galician Studies and, for instance, language policy, history, diaspora studies, cultural anthropology, comparative literature, translation studies, ecocriticism or exophonic writing.

Enquiries and abstracts of 200-250 words for 20 minute papers (either in English, Galician, Spanish or Portuguese), along with a brief bio-note, are to be sent to v1malons@ed.ac.uk by 31st December 2017, including ‘abstract Galicia2018’ in the subject.

Notification of acceptance by 15th January 2018.
