The Edge of Words

Project aims

The project has three main aims, building on its statement of intellectual purpose.

The first aim is to bring together colleagues and postgraduate students in the six language sections of the Division of European Languages and Cultures (French, German, Hispanic Studies, Italian, Scandinavian Studies, and Russian), in Celtic and Scottish Studies, in Film Studies, and in Translation Studies, for a programme of study days, seminars, and conferences, over five years, addressing from every point of view the project’s core theme, and always structured to encourage debate between people working in different languages.

The second aim is to encourage further research, especially in the form of collaborative projects; to assist colleagues to become research leaders in their fields; and to help with applications for further funding and support (from whatever source), for projects growing out of the initiative.

The third aim is to bring the perspectives of the Edge of Words to a wider public, both academic and general, through invitations, public lectures, and other activities.
