Mini MAXXI Seminar Series 2020/2021

A mini series of co-created guest events linked to the Italy by Design postgraduate course at the University of Edinburgh.

The 'Mini MAXXI: Radical Conversation on Material Culture' seminars form part of the DELC Seminar Series 2020/2021.

These events are designed to turn COVID limitations on learning and knowledge exchange into innovative engagement opportunities for everyone.

The seminars are linked to the Italy by Design postgraduate course at the University of Edinburgh, but is open to all, and sits within the annual DELC research seminar series.

What’s in a name?

'Mini MAXXI' takes inspiration from the MAXXI, the National Museum of 21st Century Arts, Rome. Like the bigger MAXXI, our mini guest series promotes radically contemporary conversations on the materialities of cultural production and change.

About Italy by Design

Italy by Design is a practice-led Vertically Integrated Programme open to all students eligible for level 10 and 11 study at Edinburgh.

Combining key concepts in Material and Intermedial Studies with innovative practice-led course delivery formats, the course looks at the art of cultural transmission through artefactual materiality since Leonardo and the Renaissance.

Its particular focus is on cultural production and commodification in the modern period. Students share in the cocreation of the course, taking coleading and coproduction roles, including in the co-ordination of guest seminars.

In the interests of audience and speaker wellbeing during COVID-19, and while restrictions over social distancing remain in place, all events will be taking place online until at least September 2021.
