General information about postgraduate study in German at the University of Edinburgh.
Postgraduates are an integral part of our research community here in Edinburgh.
The German research seminar meets regularly, featuring papers by postgraduates, staff, and guest speakers. Postgraduates and staff participate in interdisciplinary research clusters across the School of Literatures, Languages and Cultures, on topics such as Memory and Trauma, Autobiography, and Gender and Sexualities.
We publish two in-house journals:
- "FORUM" - an online interdisciplinary journal founded and run by postgraduates in the School
- "The Edinburgh German Yearbook" - published by Camden House and edited within the German section
By the end of their time in Edinburgh, most postgraduates in German have published articles and presented their research at national and international conferences.
We provide all our second and third year PhD students with the opportunity to gain teaching experience on first and second year undergraduate courses. The University offers teacher-training courses to postgraduates, and experienced teaching staff act as mentors.
