In memoriam: Sheila Wagg, née Millar

Sheila Millar (b.1933) studied languages at the University of Edinburgh.

At age 22, she took up post as secretary to the Departments of German and Hispanic Studies (now Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies) and remained with German Studies throughout her career. Colleagues remember her as being pivotal to the success of the department.

She is the author of German at the University of Edinburgh 1894-1994 and the prize for best modern language student of the year is given in her name.

Sheila died in September 2022, six months after her husband, Derek, formerly of Hispanic Studies, whom she married in 1971.
