Catherine the Great’s Medals meet the Princess

The University of Edinburgh recently welcomed its Chancellor, HRH Princess Royal, for the opening ceremony of the newly refurbished 50 George Square – housing the School of Literatures, Languages and Cultures. (Published Tuesday, 20th October 2015)

To commemorate the Chancellor’s visit, The Princess Dashkova Russian Centre was asked by the College to organise an exhibition of the Centre’s activity. The display located on the third floor of 50 George Square illuminated three dimensions of the work of the Centre: research, academic diplomacy and a showcase of Russian culture in Scotland. As part of the display, we organized an exhibition of the medals gifted to the University of Edinburgh in 1779 by Princess Ekaterina Dashkova to mark the occasion of the graduation of her son, Pavel Dashkov, as a Master of Arts.
