Screen Adaptations of Russian Silver Age Writing: Vladimir Nabokov, Ivan Bunin, Georgy Ivanov

The talk concentrates on the possible ways of changing the literary tradition to adapt it to a wider audience. Screen versions of Russian novels are discussed, for example films based on Vladimir Nabokov’s novels, as well as shorter adaptations of Ivan Bunin’s novellas. The discussion also analyses a documentary film about the poet Georgy Ivanov that was shown on the Kultura television channel in Russia and worldwide (2003 - 2012).

Nina Scherbak is a novelist, scriptwriter, and associate professor at the English Department, St. Petersburg State University. She has published widely on Silver Age writing as well as British and American literature of the twentieth century.

The talk is followed by an informal wine reception. All welcome!
