An evening with author Shamil Idiatullin

Meet Shamil Idiatullin, award-winning writer, author of Brezhnev City (2017) which received the Big Book Prize.

Shamil will speak about his work and read from Brezhnev City, a novel about a 13-year-old boy in Brezhnev’s Russia. Shamil stated that after waiting for a long time for a novel about Soviet childhood at a critical juncture, he in the end decided to write it himself.

Shamil Idiatullin is a journalist and novelist. He has worked in journalism since 1988, including being a staff writer for Kommersant newspaper since 1994. He was the head of its Correspondent Network, a political columnist for “Kommersant-Vlast” magazine, and is currently the head of the Regional Editions Department. In 2004 Idiatullin published his first novel Tatar Hit (original title — Rucciя). His books have been nominated for the prestigious Russian literary prizes (incl. “Big Book”, “Natsbest”, “Yasnaya Polyana”) as well as for genre awards for fiction, horror and children’s literature.

The event is organised in collaboration with Russian Children’s Book Festival.
