Every student has a Personal Tutor (PT), a member of the teaching staff who'll give you academic guidance and support.
Your Personal Tutor (PT) can:
- help you review your academic progress
- provide opportunities for you to reflect on how learning can help you pursue your future development
- foster in you a sense of belonging to a community of learners
- provide an academic reference
Meeting with your Personal Tutor
All students meet with their Personal Tutor (PT) at the start of each academic year. The initial meeting, which should last around 15-20 minutes, will normally take place during Welcome Week.
Your PT will contact you to invite you to arrange a meeting. If you are a first year student, you are encouraged to schedule your initial appointment so that it takes place after you have visited the online Course Options Hub on the University's website and found out more about the optional courses open to you.
First year students must also meet their PT early in Semester 2.
An electronic record will be kept of all one-to-one meetings.
Any additional ad hoc meetings should be set up by email. If your Personal Tutor is unavailable for any reason, then please contact the School’s Student Support Team who will either be able to advise you personally, or will put you in touch with another member of staff, as appropriate.
