Stephen Brown is Professor of English and 3M Fellow at Trent University in Canada where he was Master of Champlain College for sixteen years. He has held fellowships at Yale University, the University of South Carolina, and the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities at the University of Edinburgh. He is also a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland and a Lifetime Honorary Fellow of the Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education. His research focuses on the Scottish book trade during the long eighteenth-century with a current emphasis on newspapers, magazines, advertisements, and Sessions Papers. He edited the manuscripts of William Smellie for the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland, now deposited with the National Museum of Scotland, as well as co-editing the Edinburgh History of the Book in Scotland: Enlightenment and Expansion 1707-1800, which received a CILIP Besterman-McColvin Commendation in 2012.
