Ian Campbell is emeritus Professor of Scottish & Victorian Literature at the University of Edinburgh, and teaching fellow in the English Department where he has been on the staff since 1967. He retired in 2009, and has also held visiting appointments in USA, Canada and Europe. One of the senior editors of the Duke-Edinburgh edition of the Collected Letters of Thomas and Jane Welsh Carlyle (Duke UP, 43 vols. to date) he has also published on Scottish literature, on Victorian and modern literature.
