Application Procedures
The application process varies according to the host institution, but in all cases there are two stages:
1. Students complete an application form for their particular host university, and provide additional information, which may include: a bank statement, TB scan, letters of guarantee and references from academic staff.
2. Once the host university has processed the application a Certificate of Eligibility will be issued to the student, normally between July and August. This is then taken to the Japanese Consulate in Edinburgh or the Japanese Embassy in London, where it is stamped into the student’s passport. The addresses of both the consulate and embassy are listed below.
Students who wish to leave Japan and return during their stay are required to obtain a re-entry permit from the Ministry of Immigration.
