Postgraduate study | Chinese

Choose from taught and research-led programmes on China and East Asia.

What's it like to study Chinese here?

One of the world’s earliest civilisations, China is once again a major economic and political global power; one whose scale makes an understanding of regional and cultural differences essential.

As the Scottish Centre for Chinese Studies, we teach and supervise postgraduate programmes on China and East Asia, and create vital interdisciplinary linkages between experts across the University of Edinburgh and other higher education institutions in Scotland.

Join our friendly community and you’ll be based at the heart of the University, with great links to the Confucius Institute for Scotland and regular events featuring visiting speakers and performers from around the globe. Our world-leading festival city, seat of the Scottish Parliament, has excellent links with China and a thriving East Asian cultural scene.

Edinburgh's fantastic libraries, language learning facilities and collections include the EUL Chinese and East Asian Studies Collection of some 50,000 print and digital resources.
