New Head of the Centre for Open Learning Appointed

New appointment to Head of the Centre for Open Learning

COL is pleased to welcome Jenny Hoy as the Head of the Centre for Open Learning, a key leadership role with responsibility for the entirety of the Centre’s Academic provision, its staff and students.

Jenny comes to the role with extensive teaching and academic management experience, most recently as our former Head of Short Courses. Jenny has been instrumental in the development of the Short Courses provision, our new Part-time Access Programme and the University’s Widening Participation Strategy, all of which encourage people into education whatever their circumstances or experience.

Jenny's academic background is Music and she started her teaching career at 17 whilst she was a student at Leeds College of Music (LCoM). From here, Jenny went on to lead Junior LCoM, the conservatoire’s innovative provision for young musicians and the first in the UK to include music production as a subject area. Committed to inclusion and a firm believer in the transformative power of education, Jenny has taught and developed community education and outreach projects across the UK, including a research project into educational transitions which informed her postgraduate studies in education. Jenny continues to perform and record as a musician and is a proud member of La Banda Europa – a 36 piece ensemble, put together to celebrate music and culture across the European continent.

We have much to celebrate within the Centre, we care deeply about our students and how we support their learning, this is the foundation upon which we build and is one of the many things that we all have in common.
