The University’s Office of Lifelong Learning (OLL) will be known as the Centre for Open Learning (COL) from 1st April 2016.
The Centre for Open Learning will continue to provide English Language education, the International Foundation Programme, a broad offering of credit and non-credit bearing short courses, and a wide range of languages from its base at Paterson’s Land in the Holyrood campus. The department is also the home of the part-time Access programme, formerly offered in partnership with Edinburgh College. This programme is currently being redeveloped and will be introduced from 2017-2018.
Prof David Finkelstein, Head of the Centre for Open Learning said “This change reflects our vision to open up learning opportunities and the University as a whole to the wider community in Edinburgh and much further afield. We are maintaining and developing some fantastic non-traditional study routes which make learning more accessible to a wide range of people. We are delighted to be able to use a new centre name which echoes this and our future objectives.”
In addition to this change, the English Language Teaching Centre (ELTC) which is part of the Centre for Open Learning, will be referred to as English Language Education (ELE) at the University of Edinburgh from the 1st April.
