Approach to assessment design

Some short general principles on assesement (re)design.

General principles

  1. Keep it simple (at least no more complicated than necessary)  
  2. Go back to your learning outcomes (LOs):
    1. How are they addressed in your teaching
    2. where and how are they tested across the course or programme? (Mapping needed)  
  3. Before you plan the final summative assessment:
    1. Have your students already addressed and met some LOs already in coursework? Could they, with some adaptation?
    2. Do you need to assess any LOs again?
    3. Can you concentrate on those LOs yet to be met?
