Abstract

The E-Light project comprises a series of extra-curricular, online and face-to-face teaching activities around the theme of light. The project is timed to coincide with the UN’s International Year of Light and to extend existing UoE investments in global challenges, living laboratories, open knowledge, big data, online/digital learning whilst deepening collaborations with Indian academic institutions and partners.

Through a series of activities in Edinburgh and India the project will establish the viability and scalability of running international living labs through the UoE’s liaison offices, the possibilities of online community portals for sharing international student projects, and the feasibility of organising cross college activities on global challenges thematically.

E-Light is intended to create novel opportunities for international student collaborations and will support the activities of EUSA student societies (Engineers without Borders, International Development Society, People and Planet) and feed directly into a number of MA and MSc programmes across Colleges of Humanities and Social Sciences and Science and Engineering (incl. Sustainable Development Design Informatics, International Development, Electrical Engineering with Renewable Energy) and specific course options (Design for Informatics, Energy and Development, Sustainable Energy Group Design Project).
