Dr. Emily Woollen, Academic Developer: Researcher Development
Role in the IAD
I am an Academic Developer in the Researcher Development team, and lead on the development, rollout and embedding of training and support for research managers and Principal Investigators. I also work with senior management at the University on strategic projects and objectives that are relevant to research.
I work closely with colleagues from across the University to ensure the training and support for senior researchers is visible and easily accessible. I also work with researchers and managers in Colleges and Schools to ensure the support and training is appropriate and applicable. The overarching aim of my work is to improve the research cultures and environments we work in to improve research and the opportunities for our researchers. I sit on committees and groups related to research cultures and research improvement to ensure our efforts are collectively applied and have meaningful impact.
Over the last 10 years I have been in various roles at the University of Edinburgh, both as a researcher and as an Academic Developer. I have developed a specialism in supporting interdisciplinary research and researchers, as well as research ethics and integrity and good research practice. I am passionate about improving research environments so that researchers can do the best possible research and can realise their full potential in the research sector. Supporting senior researchers is key to realising this goal.
