Role in the IAD

I am a member of the IAD’s Learning and Teaching team which provides support to both staff and students across the University in learning, teaching and assessment.

As Head of Masters provision in the IAD, I am responsible for supporting taught postgraduate students (PGT) with their academic development.

Academic Development for the PGT cohort became part of IAD’s remit in September 2011, and my team have worked closely with Colleges, and Schools, as well as individual programmes, to deliver appropriate support and development. In addition, my role includes undertaking research in relation to the PGT strand.

I am a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and I mentor participants on the Edinburgh Teaching Award who are aiming for Fellowship, or Senior Fellowship of the HEA.

Professional interests

I am a member of the Education for High-Growth Innovation research group which formed from the Cambridge-MIT Institute. My research in this area is focused on self-efficacy and entrepreneurial intent.

In relation to PGT provision, I am working on developing different models for supporting the academic development of students; transitions from and to higher education; and the pedagogy of online and distance learning at the Masters level.
