Role in IAD

I am a member of the IAD’s Learning and Teaching team. I lead IAD provision for programme and course design and also lead IAD support for digital education offering expertise in digital pedagogy to support blended, hybrid and online teaching. I convene the Online Learning Network (OLN) which brings together online educators to share knowledge, practice and innovations in online teaching and research. I contribute to the UoE CPD framework for learning and teaching; teaching on the PgCAP, and mentoring on the Edinburgh Teaching Award (EdTA).

Professional background

I have over 20 years experience of teaching in blended and online environments which includes external examining on Masters programmes.

I'm a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, a Member of the British Computer Society, and a Member of the British Psychological Society. I have had the opportunity to be a member of a number of project boards and committees and I currently represent the University of Edinburgh on the Scottish Higher Education Developers Network (SHED).

My research interests are focussed on the intersection of teaching and learning with digital technologies and I'm currently researching hybrid teaching. I've contributed to national research projects funding by Jisc, and the QAA and international projects funded by U21.
