Windows Antivirus

The University has licences for windows anti-virus software covering your computers at home and at work.

Anti-virus software on University owned PCs

System Center Endpoint Protection (SCEP) is currently licensed for use on University-owned computers only (supported desktop machines, departmental laptops etc).

Anti-virus software on non-University owned PCs

Microsoft Security Essentials is the recommended anti-virus software for non-University-owned computers (i.e. home use machines, personal laptops / desktops etc) running the operating systems Windows 7 and Windows Vista. This has now been superceded in Windows 8 and Windows 10 by Windows Defender which is built in to the operating system.

Removing previous anti-virus software

Before installing Microsoft Security Essentials, you may need to uninstall the current antivirus program that is on your computer. Please go through the following instructions to assist you in doing so:
