Demonstrating EdWeb

Responsive design and accessibility

EdWeb uses responsive design, which means that people using different technology should see your site in the best way for them.

It is important to remember that the way you see your site will not necessarily be the same way that your visitors see it - it depends on what device they're using to access your site.

Alternative previews

T o see how content behaves in different situations, try:

  • resizing your browser window
  • viewing the siteĀ  from your own mobile device
  • logging into EdWeb and selecting the option to preview from different technologies

Designing for all users

You must make sure your site works for all visitors. For example:

  • Don't rely on the left-hand menu for navigation, as visitors using a small screen or mobile device may not be able to see this.
  • Don't spend too much time trying to align text boxes, as alignment will be different for different users. In particular, never add ' hidden' elements, like unnecessary carriage returns, as this is likely to cause more problems than it solves.
    • However, it's helpful to make sure your summary sentences are of approximate equal length.
  • Nest headings properly and always use alt text, for visitors using screen reading technology.

More information about making your site accessible is available across the support wikis and on Media Hopper as part our the Effective Digital Content course.
