Video transcript

This video is intended to familiarise editors with the new homepage editing interface of EdWeb.

To change settings of your homepage such as the banner or title, click the “new draft” button in the grey bar. In the subsite elements tab on the left, you are able to change the banner of your homepage; associate your site with a parent organisation (such as we have done here with Information Services); and set the contact button for your entire site.

To change the layout of your homepage, click the “Panelizer” [now called Customize display] button in the grey bar. Next click the “content” button. The Panelizer content interface allows you to change the layout of your homepage.

In each row and region is the ability to add a new pane. The static pane allows you to add an image, set a title, and craft some content for each of the panes on your homepage. Once you start completing the ‘title’ field, you will find it is possible to make this into a link. This must be a direct URL path to the page you wish it to link to.

Once you have completed your pane, and saved it, it will appear in the region you chose to create it. You can drag and drop these panes around until you are happy with the layout of your page. Only rows that have panes in them will display on the completed homepage, so you can drag and drop the panes around until you are happy with the layout. There are 13 rows which allows a great deal of freedom in the layout of your homepage.

Once you are happy with the layout of your page – save it.

When adding images to your panes, we highly recommend that you use 900 by 400 pixel images, as these will display correctly when viewed on different sizes of device. As people will view your homepage on different sizes of device, there is also little point in crafting your text so the boxes “line up” when viewed on your desktop. Rather, if the title and text have similar numbers of characters in them (across a row), this will generally work well.
