Text formatting
Various text formatting options are available in EdWeb, including bold text and superscript.
Bold text
Bold text highlights key information on your web page. Don't overuse bold text though; tips on best practice are available from our Editorial Guidance.

Inline quotes
You can format part of your text so that it is properly marked up as a quote.
Blockquotes are demonstrated on the Standout elements page.
Subscript and superscript
These can be used for chemical elements, like CO2, or mathematical information, like E=mc2. It shouldn't be used for purely visual formatting, for accessibility reasons.
Mathematical formulae
You can use the LaTeX system to enter mathematical formulae into EdWeb.
Italics
Italic text is not recommended for web content, as it can be very difficult to read. EdWeb does not support italic text and will strip it out if it's pasted in.
If you would like to highlight information in a different way from using bold text, consider using a standout element.
Formatting within elements
Although all formatting options can be used in conjunction with each other (for example, a bold citation including an abbreviation), not all elements support formatting options.
