Study Spaces Local to Schools and Colleges
We are pleased to report that locally managed study spaces are gradually reopening throughout many of the University's schools and colleges. The current list of available spaces is detailed below, and this list will be continually updated as more space become available.
Students are required to check-in and check-out of a study space but they will no longer need to book spaces in advance. Check-in capability will be provided by the SeatEd @ UoE application which students have to download to their smart phone. An online webform is also available for students who do not have a smartphone. Students must check-in and check-out on leaving the desk by scanning the QR code with the SeatEd app QR reader.
**Face coverings are mandatory and must be worn while moving around the building and while seated at study desks**
Download SeatEd - our dedicated study spaces app - before you arrive at study spaces!

SeatEd is required to use our study spaces.
The official name of the app is:
SeatEd @ UoE You can find the app in Apple's App Store and the Google Play Store.

More information on using the app as well as system requirements are available via the SeatEd App User Guide.
Study Spaces key information
As part of the Scottish Government’s planned route map out of lockdown, Edinburgh moved to “beyond level zero” on the 9th of August 2021. We are now gradually re-opening all the remaining locally managed study spaces although some restrictions will remain in place, these include:
- Face Coverings are mandatory at all times in Libraries and Study spaces (exemptions apply), this includes while moving around the space, sitting at a study desk, using a group study room etc. Any visitors who do not comply with the University's Face Coverings policy will be asked to leave.
- You must check in and check-out of the study desk by scanning the QR code with the SeatEd app. This is for the purpose of NHS Test & Protect - Scotland’s way of putting into practice the test, trace, isolate, support strategy - and is not a study space booking.
Your check in will automatically expire after 4 hours (or 10 minutes before the building closes). If you want to stay longer, simply scan the QR code with the SeatEd app again. You can do this as many times as you need to when the building is open.
- For more information on using and downloading the SeatEd app, please see the SeatEd App User Guide.
