Additional exam study space in the central area

Need a space to revise in the central area? Additional exam study space is available throughout the campus.

Main Library:

Lower Ground Floor, Ground Floor and Floor 1 open 24/7.

Floors 2, 3, 4 and 5 will also remain open 24/7 from 07:30 Saturday 30 November to 23:59 Friday 20 December.

Note: This means only the Floor 6 Centre for Research Collections and Ground Floor Exhibition areas are closed each night during this period.

 

Additional study spaces in the Main Library:

Ground Floor: Café space will be closed temporarily at the end of café service daily but then will be re-opened with access from Main Library Ground Floor forum as usual.

Floor 1: Rooms 1.07, 1.09 and 1.10 (50 seats) open 24/7 from 07:30 Saturday 30 November to 23:59 Friday 20 December.

Floor 1: Room 1.12 (uCreate Studio) (20 seats) open from 09:00 Monday 2 December to 23:59 Friday 20 December (except not available Tuesday 10 December 09:00-12:00 noon).

Floor 6: Centre for Research Collections (CRC) research suite (10 seats) available during normal CRC opening hours from Monday 2 December to Friday 20 December.

Floor 6: Centre for Research Collections (CRC) teaching room (8 seats) available during normal CRC opening hours from Monday 2 December to Friday 20 December (except not available all day Friday 6 December).

 

David Hume Tower (DHT), George Square:

DHT Hub, Lower Ground Floor:

200 additional study spaces in the following rooms:

Room LG.06: 08:30-22:00 weekdays (ie excluding weekends) from Monday 02 December to Friday 20 December.

Room LG.07: 08:30-22:00 daily (including weekends) from Monday 16 December to Friday 20 December.

Rooms LG08, LG09, LG10 and LG11: 08:30-22:00 daily (including weekends) from Saturday 30 November to Friday 20 December.

 

DHT Ground Floor:

37 additional study spaces with power in the following room:

Room G.04 (adjacent to DHT Reception): 08:30-22:00 daily (including weekends) from Tuesday 10 December to Friday 20 December.

Note: Door access control applies at all times, and access is via University card and card PIN – see your PIN in the MyEd PIN channel.

 

Law School, Old College:

70 additional study spaces in the following rooms in the Law School adjacent to the Law Library:

G.159 Maclaren Stuart Room (large classroom) and G.158 (seminar room) open daily from Saturday 30 November to Friday 20 December as per Law Library opening hours: 09:00-22:00 Monday to Thursday; 09:00 to 19:00 Fridays; 09:00 to 17:00 Saturdays; 12:00 to 19:00 Sundays.

 

Other Central area libraries:

Law Library opening hours extended on 3 Sundays: 01, 08, 15 December 12:00-19:00 (instead of 12:00-17:00)

New College Library extended opening evenings: from Monday 02 December to Thursday 19 December, New College Library will be open until 22:00 (instead of 18:00) Monday to Thursday

Note: Edinburgh College of Art and Moray House libraries open as usual

Note: School of Scottish Studies Archives Library at 29 George Square (17 seats) is also open for any student to use, Tuesday to Friday, 10:00-16:00

 

Other Central area computer labs:

Hugh Robson Building and High School Yards computer labs will open at 07:30 and close at 22:00 daily as usual, but access may be restricted due to exam use.

Note: Door access control applies weekdays after 17:00 and at weekends, and access is via University card and PIN – see your PIN in the MyEd PIN channel.

 

Help with finding study spaces:

Purple t-shirted student helpers will be employed in the Main Library and Law Library to guide students to available study spaces. Please ask for help!

You can also report inconsiderate behaviour in the Main Library from now to Friday 20 December 09:30-15:30 using the webform at www.ed.ac.uk/is/issue-report-form and we will respond as quickly as possible. At other dates/times please report to the IS Helpdesk on the Ground Floor of the Main Library.

No 'reserving' study spaces:

Healthy study includes taking a break: please show consideration to your fellow Library users by clearing the desk if you plan being away for longer than 1 hour. Your belongings may be moved aside if you do not return within this time.
