Information about accessing Pure

How to get access to Pure

Access to Pure is available to academic staff, visiting and honorary staff, postgraduate students and research administration staff.

Academic staff access to Pure is enabled by Colleges/Schools Pure administrators.

Staff on research only or research and teaching contracts should have Pure profiles already enabled for them by the Colleges/Schools. If you are on these contracts and cannot log in to Pure, please contact your College/School Pure administrator.

All other staff who would like a Pure profile should request one from your College/School Pure administrator.

Pure access is connected to assignments in your HR record. If your assignment ends, your access to Pure will expire and your profile will no longer be displayed on Edinburgh Research Explorer. To reinstate your Pure profile, please contact your College/School Pure administrator.

Visiting and honorary staff should request access to Pure from their School HR department. Please refer to your School website for contact details of your School HR department.

Pure access is connected to your assignment in the Visitor Registration System (VRS). If your assignment ends, your access to Pure will expire and your profile will no longer be displayed on Edinburgh Research Explorer. To reinstate your access, please contact your School HR department.

Postgraduate students have automatic access, with Pure profiles generated via a synchronisation with EUCLID. Student accounts have limited content types available and profiles are not currently displayed on Edinburgh Research Explorer.

Please refer to the Postgraduate students page for more information.

Research administration staff should request administrative access to Pure by emailing pure@ed.ac.uk.

Personal User Overview

A new personal user overview page is coming to Pure. This is Elsevier’s first step in changing Pure’s user interface and you may notice some similarities with the new portal.

After logging in, the personal user overview page is usually the first screen you will see as a personal user. The new personal user overview gives users productive insight into their research. There are several key design changes that effect appearance and layout as well as new features that provide meaningful, relational context. It presents a summary of your research profile, helping you to access, explore and add your content to Pure.

Use our guides below to familiarise yourself with the personal user overview page for staff and students.

Please note: Changes to the personal overview do not affect how you add new content. Adding new content will take you to the same editor window as before.

For more guidance on how to add your research content, see Add new content.
