Submit a Book Proposal

Interested in hosting your book with the Library? We would be happy to discuss how we could help you set up a new book or migrate an existing title.

Before You Start

The information below can help you decide if this service is right for your title. Please contact the Scholarly Communications team for further information.

Is this the right service for your book?

The service supports the publication of academic and student-led Open Access books. It uses Open Monograph Press (OMP) and it is provided free of charge to all members of the University of Edinburgh. While we provide hosting and ongoing support, Editorial teams have complete editorial control and are responsible for all aspects of the publication process (apart from putting the content onto OMP, which the Library will do). Please read the page below for more details on what you can expect from the free book hosting service:

Process for Using the Service

Whether you would like to launch a brand new book or migrate an existing title, the below instructions inform you of the process for getting your book hosted.

1. Download, Complete and Submit A Book Proposal Form

Please fill out the Book Proposal Form below. The purpose of this form is to determine your goals and needs so we can better support you. Once completed, please sent to Rebecca Wojturska on the Scholarly Communications team (edinburgh.diamond@ed.ac.uk)

2. Review & Approval

The Library will review your proposal. Please note that Edinburgh Diamond supports books in all disciplines and subject areas, providing they are created by staff or students at the University of Edinburgh. However, we will not host content that discriminates against characteristics protected by law.

3. Meeting

Once approved, we will arrange a meeting with you to further explain the process, determine your needs, and provide a timeframe for the launch.

4. ISBN & DOI Allocation

We will send you a list of DOIs and the ISBN for your book, which you should add to the whole book as well as each separate chapter file (we recommend putting it on the title page). More information about this in the Book Submission Checklist Guide below!

5. Finalise and Send Your Book Files

Download our Book Submission Checklist Guide below to ensure you have everything you need to send to us, and that your files adhere to industry best-practice. Note: we cannot upload your book unless you provide us with everything in the checklist.

6. Test Site

We will put your book and information onto a test environment and invite you to check everything is in order.

7. Live Site & Launch

Once you've approved the book, we will publish it on the live site, ready for the launch!
