About the service
E-reserve produces copyright-compliant digital extracts of course readings for academic staff, to support learning and teaching.
Copyright law does not permit unregulated scanning of articles or book chapters still in copyright.
The University has a licence from the Copyright Licensing Agency which allows scanned extracts to be made available for courses of study. In order to comply with this licence, all scanning must be processed and administered by the E-reserve team.
We create copyright-compliant digital extracts of book chapters and journal articles on behalf of Course Organisers or Course Secretaries and provide secure links (via EASE authentication) for staff to make available to their students.
- Ease of access for students
- Permanent links – no need to make renewal requests
- Copyright compliance guaranteed
- Availability of usage data on request
E-reserve and Resource Lists
We work with the Library Learning Services team and can link digital extracts to Resource Lists. The Resource Lists service is the University’s preferred route for Course Organisers to request copyright‐compliant scans.
Scope of service
The E-reserve team currently supports over 1000 courses and in the average year provides access to around 2000 new readings.
