Art and Architecture Library

Located in Chambers Street, near the National Museum of Scotland, the Art and Architecture Library provides resources for History of Art, Art, Architecture and Landscape Architecture students.

The Art and Architecture Library is located on the ground and lower ground floors of Minto House, Chambers Street. It provides quiet study space with wireless access throughout and holds over 20,000 books, primarily for history of art, architecture and architectural history courses, and more than 80 architecture-related journals.

Click and Collect Service for ECA lending books

The Click and Collect service for Edinburgh College of Art (ECA) Library lending books (standard, short loan and Reserve items) is now available to University Staff and Students, and NHS Lothian Staff on a temporary basis.

To borrow from the ECA general collections showing as ‘Available’ (‘item in place’) please sign into DiscoverEd and click ‘Request this item’; once requests are processed and fetched by library staff users will be notified by email and items should be collected from the Art & Architecture Library, Minto House, Chambers Street, during advertised opening hours.

Requests will be processed as quickly as possible but please allow up to 5 working days for your request to be ready for collection and check for the email notification.

All requested items are collected from the Art & Architecture Library, Minto House, Chambers Street, after you have received a confirmation email.

From Monday 11  April until further notice:

Monday – Thursday: 09:00 am – 21.50pm

Friday 09:00 am - 16:50 pm

Saturday and Sunday 12 noon – 16.50pm

Where should I return ECA items I have borrowed from Art & Architecture Library?

Items should be returned to the Art & Architecture Library (preferred) or Main Library.

Access and opening hours

 

Monday 4 – Friday 8 April: 09:00 - 16:50; closed Saturday 9 and Sunday 10  April.

From Monday 11 April until further notice: Monday – Thursday 09:00 – 21.50pm; Friday 09:00 - 16:50; Saturday and Sunday 12 noon – 16.50pm. 

This temporary extended access is to support the ECA Library Click and Collect service.  

Evening and weekend access is restricted to University of Edinburgh Staff and Students.

The main entrance to Minto House is in use Monday to Friday 9am -5pm. Eligible library users can gain entry with their University card via the Maltings entrance (further along Chambers Street at the disabled access ramp).*

*Please note that from Friday 20th May, the Minto House main door will be inaccessible for approximately 3 weeks due to building works. During this period, eligible library users should gain entry with their University card via the Maltings entrance (further along Chambers Street at the disabled access ramp).

Staff and students of the University of Edinburgh have full access and borrowing rights. NHS Lothian* staff may register as users according to the current service level agreement with the University of Edinburgh and upon production of current ID documentation.

*Please note that the service level agreement with NHS Lothian will cease on 10th September 2022. From 10 September 2022, NHS Lothian staff will be able to join UoE Library as members of the public

NHS Lothian staff will continue to have access to a wide range of library and information resources and support from the NHS Education for Scotland Knowledge Network (external site)  

Access to the library is also available to other users but please be aware that during exam periods access may be restricted. Please note, that for some external users, the membership application process has changed. Please check up-to-date information on the Joining the Library web pages before visiting any library. 

Covid-19: Please see the University's guidance on hygiene and safety measures when on-campus. The University also promotes the Scottish Government ‘Distance Aware’ scheme and expect all library users to respect those members of our community who are either wearing a lanyard or badge, or request that others keep a distance.
