Edinburgh University Library no longer has a Service Level Agreement (SLA) with NHS Lothian from 10th September 2022.
Membership
From 29 August 2022, NHS Lothian staff will be able to join UoE Library as members of the public or to apply for other UoE Library membership options if appropriate and on production of the required documentation. Information regarding UoE Library membership is available on the Joining the Library web pages.
NHS Lothian staff will continue to have access to a wide range of library and information resources and support from the NHS Education for Scotland Knowledge Network (external site)

What do I need to bring?
To register please bring proof of your current employment i.e. Staff ID badge or, a payslip (plus photo ID) or contract agreement (plus photo ID) can be accepted. Please bring the appropriate ID as you will not be able to register without the required documentation.

How do I register?
Registration is a two step process- firstly you need to fill in the online application form, and to complete the process you will need to visit a library Helpdesk (during staffed hours) to collect your library card. Data will be used by NHS Lothian and the University of Edinburgh for the purpose of monitoring the uptake and quality of library services and will not be shared with any other party. A full list of sites and opening hours is available on the University web pages. Helpdesk staff at the Western General and Royal Infirmary libraries can offer specialist advice regarding resources. Please note that registration ceases 20 minutes prior to the Helpdesk closing.
What does my card entitle me to?

You should carry your Library card at all times as it will allow you to borrow books as well as enable access to the Main Library and other site libraries. If your card is lost, stolen or damaged you can get a replacement card at a card helpdesk (£10 replacement fee). If your card expires you must apply for a new one. To do this you will need register with the library again and provide the required documentation as detailed above.
Where can I borrow from?
You can borrow from 9 libraries within the university including :
- The Main Library, George Square. (Collections include Nursing, Medicine, Public Health and Business). This facility is open 24/7
- Royal Infirmary Library, the Chancellor Building. (Medicine)
- Western General Hospital Library, Medical Education Centre, Outpatients building. (Medicine)
- Moray House Library, St John Street. (Education, Sport, Recreation)
