Membership

University of Edinburgh graduates are entitled to join the library as an External Borrower for free.*

Membership Notes
External borrower Free. Membership lasts for 3 years.

*Graduates of the University wishing to join the library as Alumni Borrowers must clear any outstanding library fines and fees they accrued whilst studying at the University.  Alumni borrowing membership of the library is not open to Alumni who still have access to library services.

What do I need to bring?

Please bring the appropriate ID as outlined below. You will be unable to register unless you have all the requested documentation.

*Proof of address must be dated within the last 3 months.

Library opening hours

Your library card can be used in the Main Library and all site libraries. Access to departmental or class libraries is not available.

Library locations

WiFi access for graduates

All our Libraries are part of the University of Edinburgh's WiFi network. Alumni may register for use of WiFi and are entitled to use the service in any of our Libraries.

Replacement cards (lost, stolen or expired)

If your external borrower's card is lost, stolen or damaged you can get it replaced with an online payment of £10. Please email library.account@ed.ac.uk for more details.

If your card expires you must apply for a new one. Please email library.account@ed.ac.uk and we will send you all the relevant information for a replacement. All required documentation must be provided.

You are very welcome to become a life member of the Friends of Edinburgh University Library, which is a separate charitable organisation, on payment of the current fee.
