What does my card entitle me to?
Details of what your card entitles you to at the University Library can be found on the following page.
Registration can take place at any library site but can only take place during Helpdesk staffed hours. You may fill in the application form online before visiting the library.
Please note that registration ceases 20 minutes prior to the Helpdesk closing.
Your library card can be used in the Main Library and all site libraries. Access to departmental or class libraries is not available.
WiFi access for graduates
All our Libraries are part of the University of Edinburgh's WiFi network. Alumni may register for use of WiFi and are entitled to use the service in any of our Libraries.
Replacement cards (lost, stolen or expired)
If your external borrower's card is lost, stolen or damaged you can get it replaced at a card helpdesk for a £10 fee.
If your card expires you must apply for a new one. Graduates who wish to extend their Alumni Library membership after it expires can now renew their Library cards over the telephone. An updated Library card will then be sent out to their home address.
Please note: Telephone renewal of an external borrower's card can only be made by users who have not changed address since last registering with the Library. Borrowers who have moved home will have to come in person to a Library Helpdesk to renew the card, providing photographic ID and proof of home address dated within the last 3 months.
Friends of Edinburgh University Library
You are very welcome to become a life member of the Friends of Edinburgh University Library, which is a separate charitable organisation, on payment of the current fee.
