Other access schemes

There are some other current and historical reciprocal agreements that may give Edinburgh University staff and students access to other libraries.

SHARES

Edinburgh University Library is a participant in the SHARES program, which began as a collaborative effort of the Research Libraries Group (RLG) over 20 years ago. Historically one benefit of the program is that it gives participant’s students and staff on-site access to collections and services at the other SHARES institutions. Borrowing rights are not available under this agreement.

Your current staff ID or student matriculation card is required for access to other SHARES libraries. Please contact the library you wish to visit in advance to check for any other ID required or for any local access arrangements that may take precedence over SHARES.

The SHARES website gives details of participating institutions and more information about the program.

SCONUL Access

Most of the UK participating institutions of SHARES are also members of the SCONUL Access scheme and this has superseded the use of SHARES in the UK. If you wish to visit one of the UK participating institutions please use the SCONUL Access scheme instead.

SCURL

Edinburgh University Library is a member of the Scottish Confederation of University and Research Libraries ( SCURL). Historically staff and postgraduate research students from any other SCURL institution can get free membership of the Library. However, in most cases more recent national and local reciprocal access agreements have superseded SCURL and should be used instead.
