National Library of Scotland (NLS)
The National Library of Scotland (NLS) is Scotland's largest Library. Located in the centre of Edinburgh, it is a reference Library holding around 14 million printed items. It is also Scotland's legal deposit Library.
Access to the National Library of Scotland for Edinburgh University Students
All undergraduates and college students applying for access will receive a 3 year card. Evidence of identity (e.g. Student card) and address will be required. Except for access to unique material, NLS still expects the needs of college and ordinary degree level students to be met by their own institutions. More information relating to undergraduate and college students’ access can be found here: http://www.nls.uk/using-the-library/library-cards
Postgraduate Students and Staff
Postgraduate students and staff of Edinburgh University Library must provide the same ID as undergraduate students which is Photographic ID and proof of home address. Postgraduates must also supply their University ID (student) cards.
For convenience, Edinburgh University staff and students may pre-register online for the NLS. However, the same ID is required on arrival at the registration desk.
