Services
The School of Scottish Studies Archives and Library provide a broad range of services. Some are delivered directly and others are delivered through the Centre for Research Collections.
Enquiries & Access to Heritage Collections
SSSA&L staff provide support for researchers unable to visit in person, or those planning a research visit. This includes searching of catalogues, recommendation of resources, specialist advice from collections staff, and providing live online access through visualisers. These services are delivered alongside those at the Centre for Research Collections.
Access to Digitised Content & Licensing
The CRC and SSSA&L work with the Digital Imaging Unit to provide digitisation services, including photography, 3D scanning, AV digitisation and large-scale digitisation projects. Staff manage the licensing of digitised content, guided by the current legislation for copyright and data protection.
Access to School of Scottish Studies Library Collections
From September 2021 you will be able to request lending library books from Scottish Studies Library through DiscoverEd. These will be available within 5 working days to collect from the reserve shelves in the HUB in the Main Library.
We will also be trialling a Scan and Deliver service (through DiscoverEd) for serials and reference items in the Scottish Studies Library.
Teaching with Collections (in-person and online)
The Teaching with Collections service allows academic staff to deliver seminars and lectures from the CRC and 29 George Square, using collection items as the basis of their teaching. These can be delivered in-person or online (both live and pre-recorded). Staff also deliver specialist teaching for University of Edinburgh courses, particularly within Celtic and Scottish Studies.
