VLE Excellence

As part of improving the student digital experience, the University is investing in improvements to our VLEs over the next few years. We invest in our physical teaching spaces to make sure they are highly accessible, easy to use and that we have the capacity we need. The VLE Excellence programme is about making a similar investment in our virtual teaching spaces.

As part of improving the student digital experience, the University is investing in improvements to the Learn VLE over the next few years. We invest significantly in our physical teaching spaces to make sure they are highly accessible, easy to use and that we have the capacity we need. The VLE Excellence programme is about making a similar large investment in our virtual teaching spaces. 

We have been using VLEs for nearly 20 years and over 5000 courses every year are now delivered on Learn. The VLE Excellence programme is laying foundations for the future by taking advantage of new technologies, gaining a better understanding the digital student experience, and embedding good practices to support that across the institution.

We are doing this through a number large projects:

• Moving Learn to cloud hosting to improve availability and out of hours support.  This was completed in July 2019.
• Setting and supporting consistent standards for Learn use via the Learn Foundations project. This project closed early 2022.
• Upgrading to Learn Ultra, which is currently ongoing.
