Branding

If you are adopting a consistent approach across your programme or school, you may wish to consider elements of branding that can be adopted to help strengthen the experience in Learn aligned to your school and programme. This branding may be consistent with your other web and printed media materials.

There are a handful of tools and approaches that may be useful for representing the School or Programme brand within your Learn courses.

For more information about the University Brand Guidelines see information on the Communications and Marketing Website.

Banner Image

It is possible to display a banner image at the top of your course section that you have designated as the landing page.

This image should be high-resolution and in a landscape format. We recommend a banner size with a width between 850 and 1000 pixels wide. Smaller images will display centrally aligned to the course content, and larger images will cut-off when a user is viewing on a smaller screen. You should keep the bulk of your branding focus left-aligned so it displays well on all screen sizes.

Do not use images that convey any important text information. The banner is designed for branding and decoration purposes only and offers no functionality to the course.

Adding a course banner

  1. In your course menu find the option for Customisation -> Teaching Style
  2. Scroll down this page to the "Select Banner" section
  3. Upload your file using the Browse My Computer Option
    1. Take care to choose an image that does not have a large file size as this could slow down the page-speed on slower connections
  4. Once the file has been uploaded you should see a preview of the image on the settings page. We recommend reviewing the banner in your course and trying the banner on different sizes of screen and devise,
  5. If you are not happy with the banner there is an option to "Delete this banner" below the preview image once uploaded.

Theme Colours

If you have images and colour branding associated with your sSchool or programme you could try and use these in a consistent way as part of a template course to offer a consistent look and feel that aligns to the University branding as well as your school or programme.

Linking to partner sites

You can use links in your course menu, or add a section to your template that contains logos, images, and links to your school or partner institutes if this is part of your branding approach and style-guide.
